Tell stories with kids puppets
A puppet show is more than just hearing a story, it's an interactive event. Children see the person or animal hand puppets as characters, they understand the nuances of their movements, and infer the story from the dialogue on stage. Opposed to something they see depicted on a television, these characters and events are tangible, which bolsters the entertainment value. Kids may "tune out" when watching TV, but when watching these large kids puppets, the experience is interactive and real, for a lasting experience. The medium of puppeteering is great for conveying a message which bolsters values and virtues to children. Something as simple as using kids puppets in a well known fairy tale will entertain and subtly teach children.
Excite with animal hand puppets
Childrens organizations have associated animals with safety programs for years. McGruff the crime dog warns kids of neighborhood or predator dangers, a Panda has been pictured on the "Hugs not Drugs" campaign for decades, and Splasher the frog tells kids not to swim in canals and never to swim alone, all the while encouraging swimming lessons. These friendly animals are children's advocates which makes children adore them, and more importantly, listen to them. By similarly using animal hand puppets in lessons or skits, children identify with them and want to become more like them. Take the most of this opportunity by using puppets in your church, youth group or home to instruct kids and instill them with virtuous or religious stories.
